Intrusion

A flicker.

Loss of flame.

The room grows cold

Once the lights go out.

Muffled sounds now

Resounding clatters.

Not one shadow

For naught one eye.

Stillness savored

In knowing notion

Will be needed

Very soon.

All now silent;

But no less movement

Of blood in veins

Running hot.

A high growl

An unknown scent.

A muffled curse,

A hastened escape.

Light rekindles.

Eyes search.

At the door

Is the Devil’s dog.
